FDA MedWatch LinkInjured patients should file an adverse event report with the FDA. Absent reports from the public, the FDA will not realize the extent of the dangers of Sargent Paste. LEGAL AND ETHICAL RESEARCH
*NEW* Australia. The Root of the Problem, Dr Roger Dennett, DDAS, ADA (NSW), Australian Dento-Legal Review 2009.
A review of the endodontic paraesthesia literature reveals that most cases have resulted from overfill of a paraformaldehyde paste into the vicinity of the mental or inferior alveolar nerves. A literature review supports the contention that paraformaldehyde containing pastes not be used to root fill mandibular molars and premolars. Sealers that contain both eugenol and paraformaldehyde, such as Endomethasone and N2, were found to be the most toxic.

  • Scientific Method vs. Testimonials
    • Testimonials lack scientific credibility regardless of their source.
    • Often used in lieu of credible science
    • Number of endorsements and reputation of endorser are not replacements for good science

  • Does a Treatment Method Work? - If there is a question about safety, does the potential benefit exceed the likelihood of harm?
